What Is Revision Round?

A revision round is one cycle of feedback and changes a brand can request before approving a deliverable. Left uncapped — "brand may request revisions until the Content is approved" — it is an open-ended obligation attached to a fixed fee, and it is one of the most common ways a simple brief quietly turns into a much larger job at the original price.

The standard fix is a number: two rounds of revisions included as part of the base rate, with any further round billed separately, commonly around 10 percent of the base rate per extra round. Stating the cap in writing before filming or editing begins is what keeps a "quick note" seventh revision from being treated as included rather than billable.

What to watch for: a brief or contract that mentions revisions with no number attached at all, and requests that arrive framed as small tweaks but actually ask for a different concept, a new script, or a reshoot. Both should be redirected back to the revision-round cap that was agreed at the start, with a clear price attached to anything beyond it — the same pattern as every other unpriced ask in a brand deal, and one worth stating in writing before the first shoot day rather than negotiated mid-edit.

In practice

A contract caps revisions at "two rounds included; further rounds billed at $150 each." When the brand asks for a fourth round of edits, the creator points back to the clause and invoices the extra $150 rather than absorbing the work for free.
